When you enter your new space, I want you to have a wow moment, to have a sanctuary where you can feel proud to share with your family and friends.

Hi I’m Tamara

My design philosophy is about showcasing sustainable concepts and practices to bring a fresh, new and invigorating energy to your home. Through the use of environmentally conscious materials and an intentional approach I embrace Biophilic & Slow Design in working with you.

Design Philosophy

Sustainable concepts have been a part of our language and practices across many fields other than design for the best part of the past three decades. Such practices have been embraced and influence my approach to how I think about my design trajectory towards energy use and resource consumption.

With the obscene amount of material waste floating around on our planet, I believe it is our social responsibility to be aware and manage our individual daily output as much as we have control over to offset our carbon footprint.

Two concepts I embrace in my design process are

Biophilic & Slow Design

What is Biophilic & Slow Design

Biophilic Design is much more than adding plants into your space. The fundamental threads that make a biophilic space to help merge the natural surrounding environment with the indoors are through ; views of and direct contact with nature, organic materials, water, dynamic natural light, fresh air, natural sounds, smells and rhythms, patterns, colours and forms that symbolize nature.

Aesthetics is the study of how things look and how we respond to them. Along with sustainable materials, it is recognized that humans find certain patterns and forms inherently delightful and visually pleasing to look at.

Fractals, circles, spirals, curves, and symmetry are forms and patterns found in nature and can improve our experience of the built environment and have a positive effect on our wellbeing.
Natural motifs are everywhere. By copying these natural shapes and images into our living spaces from artwork, to leaf and floral inspired patterned wallpaper, to organic shapes in your décor celebrates the natural forms and helps to improve a restorative balance we crave for in our busy modern lifestyle.

Much like the slow food movement since the late eighties, there has been another cultural and green shift within the design industry that has emerged over the last 10 years. This has become to be known as Slow Design or Mindful Design.

The word SLOW is an acronym which stands for sustainable, local, organic, whole meaning not processed. Slow design offers a solution through slowing the pace with a more considered and mindful approach to how we design and style our home and work environment. The short and long term effects of a product or space are considered reflecting on ethical and societal factors.

As our lives become busier, it’s an important dialogue we need to continue more than ever to develop a deeper appreciation for quality materials and minimise our enviromental impact.

Biophilic Design connects us to nature with immense benefits to help restore our health and wellbeing because innately, nature is where we feel at our best.

While the sustainability movement has been respected and valued to help society get to the point we are today, newer concepts such as regenerative design and circular design have already started shaping the next era of Interior Design which I am keen to explore.

Cork is a material that encompasses renewable properties fostering waste reduction by recycling cork products at the end of their life cycle.

Designers have started exploring and using bio materials derived from fungi, bacteria and food such as mushrooms, algae and pineapples. Bringing raw, natural elements into our living and work spaces will offer a sense of calmness and grounding influences which inevitably promotes healthier environments and helps to support the human experience for ourselves and within our communities.

Core Design Values

Rediscover

Rediscover the environment, surrounding elements, materials and reconnect with your senses.

Resource

Use renewable resources and sustainable materials to enrich your health and wellbeing.

Recycle

Using receyled and repurposed materials will help to minimise environmental waste.

Innovative and progressive design provides connection within the community and instills a sense of place and hope.

I believe sustainability and comfort doesn’t have to mean compromise through responsible use of materials and processes. Sometimes it is only our minds that limit us. I envision Interior Imprint as a business that caters to that need, to be inclusive and accessible to everyone.

Inspiration

One of my greatest sources of inspiration is our unique Australian flora and fauna. Our diverse landscapes range from lakes to mountain ranges, rainforests to deserts, and creeks to white silica sand beaches.

A home is much more than a mere shelter, it should lift us emotionally and spiritually.
