Bar/Nightclub Design Concept : The Butterfly Effect
This concept design is inspired by a combination of my four selected design issues : Visual impairment, circular economy, age and an interactive non-digital activity. And by the beautiful butterfly.
There is a concept or phenomenon known as 'The Butterfly Effect'. This notion rests on the fact the world is deeply interconnected and that one small occurance can influence a much larger system. We live in a world where our attention is drawn to profits over people, where society dictates what and who is 'normal'. And if you don't 'fit in' to that 'normal', then you are overlooked, unseen and disregarded.
I truly believe that inclusive design should be at the forefront of every single commercial design. For this reason I wanted the butterfly to be the hero, and let it empower and inspire the people who don't 'fit in' with societies standards, which are too often over looked and not taken seriously enough.
The butterfly represents the smaller and sometimes insignificant details that we should embrace more and be magnanimous because small things can lead to big and beautiful outcomes. Everyone deserves to be valued in spaces.
The use of natural and earthy materials such as rammed earth, hemp concrete, bamboo, granite and marble is connecting the interiors to the outdoors, providing a sense of a contemporary 'cave- like' aesthetics evoking calmess and providing a sense of safety and protection.
